ABOUT

Tattercoats is the wife-and-husband folk duo of Ned Joyner and Charlotte Wager-Miller. Described as sounding “like a warm, comforting bowl of soup,” they draw from their southern Indiana roots to forge a style that is both earthy and refined—rooted in tradition and distinguished by “breathtaking tight vocal harmonies” (At the Barrier).

"A Potency That's Electrifying"

-John Barlass, at the barrier

"Westways" is a geographical survey of the musical landscapes we explore: old traditionals, country classics, familiar favorites. We recorded it in the countryside of southern Indiana with our dear friend Andy Beargie. The album takes its name from a Long Island villa  where we demoed the songs shortly after getting engaged. The cover photo, taken inside a (slightly spooky) abandoned castle in Ireland, hints at the stories and adventures that shape our music.

“There’s often something uniquely compelling about husband and wife duos...and an album’s worth of further proof has just come our way, in the form of Westways. [Tattercoats] specialize in imaginative, sympathetic interpretations of songs you’ll probably know, whilst showcasing their breathtaking tight vocal harmonies and Ned’s startling prowess on the guitar fretboard.”

— John Barlass | At the Barrier

“...A seamless blend of traditional and modern songs performed in an acoustic setting and featuring some overall splendid performances. Their website describes them as a “Fireside folk duo“, and it’s an apt description: warm and inviting, a glowing debut.”

— Bryan Bance | Americana UK

"Dink's Song (Fare Thee Well)"

May 3, 2026

It was a profound honor to offer this song at the Celebration of Life for Theo LeGro—a gifted poet, fierce friend and passionate lover of life. Theo was especially fond of traditional folk music, and had specifically requested that this song be played at the memorial service. Coincidentally, we had just learned the tune about a month before being asked to offer the music. Many thanks to our dear friend Konstantin Beyer for joining us on the fiddle.

Donations in Theo's honor can be made here.

"Katie Cruel" Live Session

March 2026

We're thrilled to share our rendition of "Katie Cruel," an enegmatic folk gem with a storied past. It's lineage includes everything from Scottish balladry, 18th century English nursery rhymes and Massachusetts farmstead firesides. Fascinatingly, according to one source it was "a marching song used by the American troops in the Revolutionary War"!
